Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 2001
What is your primary product or service?
Architectural Photography. My business has shifted towards the industrial and commercial construction documentation for progress reports and completed construction. My clients include general contractors through architects.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I think we finally came full circle after rediscovering the love for architecture and exploring the large format camera while working for a publisher. I realized that my early background in construction, my love for photography, design and composition skills, but more than anything, what sold me on architectural photography was the pure beauty of the subject matter. If you've witnessed a modern glass building at dusk, properly illumined it can be breath taking.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
My background in construction, getting down and dirty around heavy equipment, being around the port of Houston with the buzz of container trucks and cranes and feeling comfortable in all this tells me I am able to focus on the project at hand. I understand dimension and scale, I can see like the architect since my first passion was to become an architect.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
My business travels to the job site itself, we come prepared to do the job right and have a winning track record of delivering what my client needs.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept net 30 day terms with most companies but may require a deposit when travel or additional equipment is involved. Company checks are usually the method of payment although we can take credit cards on site as well.
Which areas do you service?
We serve the major Houston metropolitan area but can also travel to any jobsite.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Mike Ortega
What are your hours of operation?
We operate on an ongoing schedule that depends on what the job may require.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
"that looks great Michael, thank you!"
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
-And the first crude sketch that the world had scene brought joy to Adam's heart,
'till the devil whispered from behind the leaves, "it's pretty but is it art?" -Rudyard Kipling
