Mr. Schwartz first served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Texas and then, in 1955, joined the Judge Advocate General's Corps (United States Air Force). He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1957 and returned to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Houston, Texas. After leaving the U.S. Attorney's Office in 1959, Mr. Schwartz started his own law practice
